Widows Support and Empowerment

Widowhood with young children living in severe poverty conditions is one of the most difficult hurdles and experiences a family can emotionally experience and physically endure.

SOC has always taken full responsibility to provide the necessary support until stability is attained, irrespective of timescales. Due to our commitment, we also encourage self-dependence by utilising widows’ creative talents through teaching specific life skills.

Widows Impact Story

The story of Mina Bibi is heart-rending, yet inspiring, with resolute determination. When Mina’s husband died suddenly, after contracting typhoid, he left behind a devastated widow and 11 young children (3 not shown in the photo). Due to the lack of financial stability, Mina Bibi had to move into a one-bedroom dilapidated property.

Mina Bibi desperately went around washing dishes and clothes for others to provide for the survival of her family. The children were withdrawn from school due to their impoverished circumstances.

The family struggles were brought to the attention of Sameem Orphan Care. The charity immediately took full responsibility in committing to support the entire family by building suitable accommodation, and providing the essentials of food security, healthcare, and education for the children for approximately 8 years until the family attained financial stability.

Sameem Orphan Care has been supporting vulnerable, destitute widow families for over 20 years, restoring dignity through various programmes incorporating, food security, healthcare assistance, education for their children, and self-sufficiency vocational skills towards economic empowerment.
There are numerous sad and distressing stories over the past 20 years of widow families whose lives were transformed with hope, dignity, and empowerment by SOC.
